Autumn Splash - A Flash of Color Splash Photos / by Linda Eve Diamond

Here's a dash of "Autumn Splash" to welcome in this colorful season.

This is one of four photos that I entered in a "Color Splash" art show at the Flagler County Art League, which includes paintings, mixed media collages, paper mache, stained glass and photographs.

This was my first time entering photographs into an art show and seeing them hung in a gallery, so it was fun to see them on display among the array of colorful artworks. I was also surprised and delighted to find that my "Autumn Splash" received an Award of Distinction.

The show is on display through October 4th, 2016 at the Flagler County Art League.

I'd like to share my four photos here, framed with a little background on each. I hope you enjoy them!

AUTUMN SPLASH

I took this photo in the Armstrong Redwoods Reserve and worked with the colors to enhance the reds of the redwoods and the feel of autumn leaves splashing into the sky. Can you hear the rustling leaves? Or does it look more like paint splashes?  Either way, I hope you enjoy its bright colors and natural design.

RED LEAF BIRD

When I first saw this splash of red, at a distance on a foggy day, I thought it was a bird... no, a leaf... no, a bird... and it was nearly impossible to tell for sure. Even the markings on this red leaf were dark where shadows of eyes and wings would be and it seemed to even have forked tail feathers.

(The "red leaf bird" above is a rare species of leaf that looks like a bird. Now, for a little natural symmetry, here's a bird that looks like a leaf: the common nighthawk.)  :)

"WHAT BLUE POPSICLE?"

This blue-tongued skink was happy to pose for this photo after hearing about the "color splash" theme!

(I took this one at Florida's Birding and Photo Fest.)

SUN FLOWER SPLASH

This sunflower made a splash all by itself, but I removed the color from the background to make it really pop.

(I don't have Photoshop, but anyone can do this. As they say, there's an app for that! I used one called Color Splash.)
